Mission & Background
The Boise Community Response Network (BCRN) is a group of concerned citizens united in providing a positive and healing response to acts of hate through education and outreach working with the Ada County Human Rights Task Force, The Interfaith Alliance, Voices of Faith for Human Rights, and other human rights organizations.
The Boise Community Response Network (BCRN) evolved out of an anti-hate and bias workshop presented in Boise last March (2001) by The Interfaith Alliance of Idaho and Voices of Faith for Human Rights. Boise CRN steering committee members are citizens from various backgrounds who all share a passion to stand for those who have been marginalized, discriminated against or attacked due to their religion, race, ethnic/national origin, gender, disability, or sexual orientation. CRN resource members include representatives from Ada County Human Rights Task force, The Interfaith Alliance, Idaho Association of Cities, the Neighborhood Association, and the Neighborhood Watch Program.

Hate Crimes/Hate Incidents: What's the difference?
A hate crime is a criminal offense committed against persons, property or society that is motivated in whole or in part, by an offender's bias against an individual's or group's race, religion, ethnic/national origin, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation. (International Associations of Chief's of Police definition from 1998 summit on hate crimes in America.) A hate incident is described as one which involves behaviors, though motivated by bias against a victim's race, religion, ethnic/national origin, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation, are not criminal acts (e.g., leafleting of hate literature).

What Can You Do?
Report hate incidents that take place in Boise or Ada County to the Ada County Human Rights Task Force (contact Judy Cross--345-8299 or e-mail crspatch@velocitus.net). Report hate crimes directly to the police. If you are not sure if it is a hate crime or a hate incident, report it directly to the police and let them make the determination. You could sign up to be a member of the Boise Community Response Network and receive e-mail notifications of community events and ways you can get involved (e.g., attending rallies/vigils, letter writing, posting the "Idaho is Too Great for Hate" poster in your window, etc.). BCRN welcomes individual and organizational involvement (corporate, government, faith, student, or community-based). We also encourage participation by neighborhood associations. Send an e-mail to boisecrn@hotmail.com and we'll tell you how!
